Are mothers who have lost a child in higher danger of breast cancer?

There were 27,571 women in a study who suffered from breast cancer, while 141,798 of them were in a control group.

And while doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists talk about the connection between deep sadness and physical health issues, we can see that the results are not that alarming. This was actually a study that has helped us to break the myth that women who have lost their children are at high risk of developing breast cancer.

The statistics show that they have a 1.05% higher percentage of developing breast cancer, yet we must remember that a lot of other factors are included when it comes to developing a serious disease.

Unfortunately, the numbers are not that great for all bereaved mothers. It looks like the mothers who have lost their one and only child had a bit higher chance of developing breast cancer, yet the numbers are still not that high - 2.65. These statistics show the chances for mothers who have lost one and only child in age 1-4.

Scientists claim that although this study is important and valuable, it may be that the mothers who have been surveyed and monitored developed breast cancer by chance.

However, we remind you to take good care of your health, especially now when you're both mentally and physically vulnerable.

Don't forget to do a monthly checkup of your breasts - you can do it alone, in the comfort of your home. Check your breasts if there are some new or unusual bumps or changes in color and shape. Monitor your nipples for changes as well. It's best to do this check approximately 5 days after your period is over.

For women under 40 years of age, be sure that you get an ultrasound check once per year. For women over 40, mammographic tests show better and more precise results.

Breast cancer that is cached in the early stages can be 99% cured, that's exactly why regular doctor appointments can save your life - don't skip them.
